Studies show that job-seekers spend less than a minute on a job ad* - which is enough time to read and process about 150 words.
If you're looking to work from home, some of the best opportunities are doing lead generation & sales work by phone. But, you have to have the right set-up in order to be successful. This is about the least-expensive way to properly set yourself up to do telemarketing or inside sales from home:
Computer w/ High-Speed Internet Connection
This one is pretty obvious - a computer and internet connection is essential. Without it, you are severely handicapped.
Phone w/ Unlimited Long-Distance AND a Consistently-Clear Connection
Again, another obvious one. Need a phone to make telephone calls. Can be your home phone, mobile or VOIP / soft-phone - just so long you aren't paying anything to make long-distance calls. One thing that is often overlooked though is the importance of sound quality. This can make a huge difference in your ability to convert conversations into leads or sales.
Headset (Highly Recommended)
Holding a phone to your ear all day will wear on you quickly - a comfortable headset is a must. But not only must it be comfortable, but sound quality is crucial! This is one of those things that isn't expensive, but is difficult to "test". So, researching online reviews is very helpful to find the right headset that is compatible with your phone, is comfortable, and offers good sound quality.
Business Database Subscription / Phone List
If you're calling a specific category of businesses (i.e. carpet cleaners), you can certainly use search engines and directories at no cost. However, if you're making calls to a geographic area, OR using a dialer, downloading a spreadsheet of numbers to calls is essential. And there's nothing less expensive in this category than ListShackPro at $50/mo.
Web-Based Lead Form
Often overlooked, but costs nothing - and is much easier for your employer / client. It's so simple too - just set-up a page (i.e. Weebly is our favorite) and create a contact form. We've put together a tutorial HERE.
Google Voice # (Recommended)
Free, but paid options also available. Can use as a VOIP / soft-phone, OR as a call-back number. You can then forward it to the number you answer, or have calls go straight to voicemail. There are other free and paid options available, but if you have a Google account already, Google Voice set-up is a breeze.
